  •  Hiya Possum, Mt. Nabro in Eritrea is interesting (7+ / 0-)

As I understand it this volcano has come to life after having never erupted in this era.

A volcano that erupted for the first time in recorded history more than two weeks ago is continuing to emit large volumes of ash and sulphur dioxide (SO2) into the skies over Eritrea and northern Ethiopia.

The Nabro stratovolcano, which is located close to Eritrea’s border with Ethiopia in northeast Africa, temporarily affected air traffic two weeks ago when the ash plume drifted as far away as Israel, Jordan, Turmenistan and the Central African Republic (CAR)..

Meanwhile, the eruption of the stratovolcano has created a new landmass, according to the director general of Mines at the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Mr. Alem Kibreab.  Mr. Alem said that the ash and lava emitted from the Southern Red Sea region volcano has created a new land mass measuring hundreds of square metres. The director general also disclosed that a team composed of geological and volcanic experts is conducting studies in the area.

    •  The earth in motion is always interesting. (7+ / 0-)

Thanks for sharing that story A2u.  Good one.  Makes me wonder about all the people living near supposed quiescent volcanoes.  How can we ever know when one will erupt?  How can we lowly humans ever be really prepared?

      •  Well you know it's funny (6+ / 0-)

If you aren't aware, I follow the UFO stuff, and to be up on it you have to go to the websites which are, well out there.  So, I'm at one of them, and some of the participants are real real big on monitoring the USGS earthquake sites etc, and they immediately put up a thread when there were some earthquakes surrounding the area.  They were strange they circled the volcano I think they had a 6.4 and shallow, and they were calling eruption.  I think they were the first to report it for sure they were looking at real time satellite stuff and saw the plume, So I guess if you want to have some preparation you have to monitor the conspiracy sites.

        •  Even the off the main stream folk are right (5+ / 0-)

some of the time.  Good for them.  That is the sort of information our new net connected world should be able to put to use.  The question becomes one of filtering and application.  Must we depend on Google or will some other entity (for instance a national government or some world body) ever take the lead?

That is a pretty amazing story.  Thanks for sharing.
