What might a Perry economic agenda look like? Building on the Texas model, it would feature tax reform that treats labor and investment income at low equal rates. Following repeal of ObamaCare, it would encourage a state-based health care overhaul starting with Medicaid.

If Perry were serious about limiting Washington’s power and capping public debt, he would propose linking the dollar to gold so Congress couldn’t lean on the Federal Reserve to finance federal overreach.

There is a Texas mirage, painted vividly by conservatives and being sold as the real deal by arch-conservative Texas governor Rick Perry, who may in a few days declare his intent to run for the Republican presidential nomination. The mirage is this: Because Texas doubled-down on the right-wing orthodoxy of cutting business taxes and regulation, the state's economy is outperforming the rest of the nation's in producing jobs.

Perry Calls Himself A "Miracle Man"

Perry poses as a minister and digs Texas into one of the deepest budget holes in the country, all the while receiving praise from the GOP.
