This "top comment" only has 7 thumbs up.  That's 7 too many (plus the poster himself), but your title of "top commenter" makes it seem like a ubiquitious feeling among posters..7 does not a movement make..and the replies to his comment are also pretty telling:

"Time to lock and load, Christians. God has mandated we clean up this mess" Hey Bryan, I hear Fred Phelps is looking for a few more good Christians, and you sound like you are just his type! Lock and load? Sounds like you've got a little St. Sarah in you too. Clean up this mess? You, sir, are a complete moron! (16 likes)

Wilcutt, two people of the same gender marry and your response is grab the guns? How like Jesus.

Bryan Wilcott wants to kill for his bloodthirsty bigotry and use the Bible to justify it. He fits in with the KKK. 13 likes.

Now don't get me wrong. The level of homophobia and bigotry on this page is nausea-inducing (the poster missed a link to the source, UG: here it is..
NYCatholic Leaders Call For Continued Opposition to Gay Marriage)

What I am trying to point out here is that even on a conservative Catholic site, such comments are strongly criticized, and only 7 people have rec'd it.

Also, "top comment" on an article seems to be a function of something other than number of "likes".  I suspect it's  function of a previous status of some kind, or maybe responses plus likes.  In other words, in this case it is "top" either because of previous posts that have nothing to do with this, or (ironically), the large number of responses calling him out.

Equally Ironically, the guy who said this appears to be from Arizona.  Sigh.

Minority rights should never be subject to majority vote.

but it does make a pretty disturbing comment.  Seven is not a huge number.  But that seven people liked this comment, to me, is very disturbing.  And it is indicative of a broader movement embracing more extreme rhetoric (not on Christian Post necessarily).

I wasn't trying to say it was a ubiquitous feeling among all the posters.  But I can see how my use of his title ("Top Commenter") could give that impression, so I'll remove that.

    •  Given that it only took 5 people per plane (6+ / 0-)

to take down the WTC and do considerable damage to the Pentagon.  It also only took two people to bring down the Murrah Federal Building.  So I consider 7 people to be way too many.  Fortunately it usually isn't the ones making public comments you have to worry about.
