I stood 4 inches from Gov Snydley last night at the Target Fireworks while a co-worker interviewed him and Mayor Bing.

When it was Ms. Granholm I always like to shake her hand and remind her that I was her first gubernatorial vote.

Literally.  I was!  I had to absentee and I got my vote in at the earliest possible moment.

But I couldn't bring myself to even open my mouth and say hello to Dick last night.  I mean what do you say?

"Nice to see you, I just signed your recall petition, looking forward to firing you at the first chance"?

I just stood there with my mouth slightly open like I was missing a chromosome.

running for re-election for governor/lieutenant gov in MD, Ehrlich showed up with his entourage at my local Starbucks.  I live in Montgomery County, MD, probably one of the bluest spots in the country, but there are some Republicans in our area (and they live across the street from me and have incessantly yapping dogs).
Anyway, I was there with my younger daughter (then 6 years old) and we were in line for our food when one of Ehrlich's henchman came up to order.  I said to him "boy are you in the wrong county!"  He gave me a grouchy "we'll see about that" before my daughter and I sat down.
The Starbucks was relatively full, there were 20-25 people there, and everyone recognized Ehrlich (I heard the baristas whispering about it and the customers were shooting looks at Ehrlich), but not a single person got up and went over there.  No one had the slightest interest in shaking his hand or even smiling at him.
I thought about bringing my daughter over because it would be exciting for her to meet a governor, but I couldn't bring myself to give him the pleasure of that acknowledgement.  Looking back, I think I made absolutely the right decision.
That November, he lost our county by a landslide.

If, in our efforts to win, we become as dishonest as our opponents on the right, we don't deserve to triumph.
