    Research and found that you are correct that many of the Founders did assume a right to secede. However, the Constitution being a living, evolving document IMO, we have a different interpretation now - especially since most of us consider that the War did settle the matter.

    Perhaps the most interesting thing I discovered in my research was that the right to secede was one of the reasons that Lee, etc. were not tried for treason. The gov't decided to let the outcome of the War settle that issue rather than litigation.
