and even double down on it.

Yes, they want the presidency.  But without it, they think they can build a winning hand.

    1 Get the Senate!!!

    2 Get the Gov Races!!!

    3 Keep the House!!!

Those are the priorities.  State houses mean a lot to them too.

    then down the list is

    5 Win the presidency!!!

Honest, I don't think the presidency is their aim.  In fact, the state races may be of greater interest to them.  They figure they have the DC thing in hand.  Its the states they want now.  And if some part of the Fed Gov is not in their hands, forget it for four years.  With more statehouses and governorships, they will have a very strong hand for 16, and a huge influence in cutting state spending and taxes, and making the rich ever so much richer and more powerful.

Republicans can lose the Presidency in 2012 and still pass their agenda.  Look at what they've done with controlling only the House in D.C.  Even with a Senate minority they filibuster anything and everything.  The President already has trouble getting any judicial appointments approved.  Just wait till they actually control the Senate.  If any left-leaning Supreme Court justices are considering retirement I'd suggest doing so before 2012.  Even with an Obama re-election I fear he'll be marginalized into nothing more than a veto pen.
