I couldn't be prouder to be out of touch with the insanity that most of my fellow Americans believe/support.  If someone told me I was mainstream American I'd be deeply ashamed.

        Democracy.
        Baseball.
        The Constitution.
        Love.
        Independence.
        Individuality.

It is sane. It is what most Americans believe in and support. I take pride in it.

If you support these values, you are in the mainstream of America. I'm sorry if this makes you feel shame.

In any case, it's a place to start to discuss how Democrats best espouse American values. (yes, even baseball)

        •  I tipped both of you (0+ / 0-)

because I believe you're both right. And I am definitely not in the political mainstream here, as a social democrat who'd be a bit left of center in Europe or Canada in an average year - yet I also believe in all of that universally American stuff.

Take an political compass type of quiz and the overwhelming majority of people on Daily Kos are almost certainly FAR to the left of the country as a whole.  Simply throwing out generic terms like "Democracy" and "Independence" has little to do with what would be considered mainstream.  A large chunk of the right would absolutely claim they believe in all those things you mention, when in reality they support undermining the constitution and enforcing their beliefs on others.
