    One can argue that the tax breaks for millionaires & hedge fund managers are a form of waste. I mean, they do have to be paid for, ultimately. And polling after polling shows that people support taxing the rich more. So he comes out AGAINST those tax breaks as the fiscally responsible thing to do (which it is). The Repukes come out SUPPORTING those tax breaks & it turns people against the Repukes. Getting rid of them and/or letting the Bush tax cuts for the rich expire (which will happen even if he does nothing) will bring in more revenue & help us with the economy AND in bringing down the deficit. So ultimately, it's good politics AND good policy.

    IIRC, the POTUS wanted to let the cuts expire naturally in 2010, but the Congressional Dems told him to wait until AFTER the midterms. Big mistake there as recent history has shown, but again, that's not his fault.
