    takes a big hit if you look at the economic circumstances of many who think and vote Republican.  For example, one good friend, with whom I try never to discuss politics, is self-employed, in debt, living on Social Security augmented by occasional unpredictable fees for services, has no health insurance, and yet loves all the Fox shows, the radio rants, and extreme Republican rhetoric.  Whatever is going on, he does not seem (to me, at least) to be a rational decision-maker making choices in his best economic interest.  I think it's more a taste for outrageous and raucus entertainment, combined with the pleasure of bonding with other equally confused and pissed-off people.

      observations into one succinct paragraph.  I just do not understand the seemingly self destructive path that these folks take.  As you said, she lives on Social Security, but that might just get suspended in a few weeks.
