If Obama loses the next election and republicans take over, the country is going to fall apart anyway. Look at Wisconsin, Michigan, Florida, Ohio, Indiana--that is what is in store for the nation with a republican president.

I will fault the democrats and Obama for handing everything over to the GOP like that. They should stand fast and be prepared to take charge in 2012 so they can mop up the mess the republicans allowed to happen.

These cuts are bad for democracy, for democrats, and for our economy. There's no point in agreeing to them. The republicans know it, that's why they are trying to strong-arm Obama into doing so.

They will cave because their funders on Wall Street will be furious if they do not. They will cave because many of them own a lot of stocks that are going to tank if the ceiling is not lifted.

We Won't Let Republicans Replace Medicare with GOP Vouchercare!

This will all play out over the next few weeks, so we shall see who was right. However, I think that there is little pressure from Wall Street on the gopers, I think the pressure from Wall Street is on The President and the Treasury Secretary. It is the job of the executive branch to manage the federal government's liabilities and to work with Congress to achieve what they need legislatively to manage the debt. This is a different time. This is the first time, in my 40+ years of being a political junkie, that we have had people elected to the House with a pledge to not only not raise taxes, but to not increase the debt limit. The Speaker knows that the overwhelming majority of his caucus will not vote for a debt limit increase without major spending cuts, even if he personally approves a deal.

      "let's talk about that"
