  •  The GOP's master plan to wreck the (8+ / 0-)

economy for 2012 is in full effect.  The job growth numbers have been hampered by cuts at the state and local level thanks to teabagger governors and state legislators and also the drying up of stimulus money.  The teabagger Congress will not approve any more money into the system to keep these folks employed and conservative Democrats kept the stimulus package less robust than it needed to be both in terms of overall size and makeup.

Now we have another big parlor game going on in DC to cut even more money out of the economy.  I am very puzzled that Democrats don't seem to see the sense of urgency to fight for more stimulus.  Instead they're trying to be clever enough to beat the GOP at its own game but they're accepting the GOP's frame and rules.

We hired Obama to be able to cut through the b.s. of DC and to keep it real.  He's not doing that right now.  The GOP set the agenda with an extension of Bush tax cuts (which they won, but Obama also thought would help him); a threatened government shut down (which Obama won because the GOP didn't end up getting jack); and now a debt ceiling battle (which the GOP is winning in terms of forcing the debate on spending cuts and austerity at a time when we need more spending and job creation,  but may end up losing because they can't take yes for an answer).

All the while, there has not been 1 piece of pro-Democratic legislation that has dominated attention in the US Senate to set the tone as to what the Democratic majority in the Senate and the Democratic President believe.

Not good signs right now for the economy or for 2012.  The President needs to find a way to avoid cutting more money out of the economy in the near term.  Hopefully, the commitment to increasing revenue will force the GOP to put up or shut up on letting the country go into default.
