PL/I with DB2 in it with a different interface.

I get Java and have programmed the last 15 years in Cobol and PL/I with IMS and DB2, and JCL, and CICS.  I get .Net stuff... it's just the old Basic with a fancy interface.

    "Get hired !"

I'm doing all the steps.  I'm getting interviews, 2-4 a month.  I'm not getting hired (yet - hopefully).

    •  Not exactly. (0+ / 0-)

PL/SQL is based on another early language called ADA.

Some of the internal naming conventions continue ADA namings to this day.

Oracle's JDeveloper has a tutorial online.

What you are missing -- logically, a fault -- is that you need to get certified.

A zillion resumes do not balance one up-to-date certification.

Again, ODTUG is there to help you as a developer. And you do have one major advantage -- your experience will count extra for conversion projects. Those gigs are temporary but they do pay reasonably and expenses are covered.

When you get a certification, let me know.

      •  I realize you're trying to 'help'. But, what's (1+ / 0-)

coming across is that I'm just not good enough.  I'm broken and/or defective.

I don't have the money to get certified.

        •  Check up on ODTUG. (0+ / 0-)

Check with your local consulting companies -- a number of them have online certification programs.

And yes, you are seen as defective if you don't prove your skills with certification exams.

          That's how the system works.

We got a lot of people come in to tech areas in the 1990s who didn't know squat. Faked credentials -- lots of them.

Certification became the ticket for most development jobs.

          •  So... degrees and experience mean nothing... (0+ / 0-)

Thanks a hell of a lot.... I don't have money for a 'certificate'.  I spent it getting a third college degree.

I think finding the intersection of I380 and the 6th Street bridge at around 5pm will solve everyone's problem of me being around in this world.

            •  The consulting companies have certification (0+ / 0-)

              programs.

Even if you fail a test, that tells you where you need to study.

And no, academic degrees per se do not count as much as cert. tests.

That's the world we live in.
