A reminder on grammar: even Shakespeare used "more better."

    •  Thank you! - OMG, now as I read a bit (4+ / 0-)

about the origins of the word and I realize and remember now - I am ashamed and sorry to say - that the word "Kanaken" is used sometimes in the German language as a derogatory cuss word.

Sigh. It's a never ending story. I guess a remnant of the German colonization of several pacific islands like Solomon Island and Samoa etc.

Reminds be about one of the only printed books I once found in a little village in the rainforests of Southern Cameroon, which was once under German colonization. It contained the translation of German orders and cuss words into one of the local languages spoken in that village. It was aside from the bible the only book known to have been printed in that dialect (a dying language today)

Oh, I don't want to mess up this beautiful diary with something miserable and sad like this. I am sorry. It just came into my mind.

      •  I don't think you messed anything up. (4+ / 0-)

You were just being curious, and we need more of that in this world. What makes HinH go diving and sharing if not that? I've never been to Hawaii, but knowing a little more about it from others doesn't make me a Haole in the worst sense of the word, I hope. Yes, there were rude colonists, all over the world, but we can learn from mistakes, I hope again.
