  •  Mission statement. Calling it censorship is lame. (11+ / 0-)

less dems and worse ones will be elected.

    •  The mission statement is to elect more and (9+ / 0-)

      better democrats.

One can not support, or even oppose, the re-election of President Obama and still be adhering, quite strictly and literally, to both the spirit and intent of that mission.

If one must support the re-election of Obama as a pre-requisite to participate in this site, it ceases to be a media resource to gather and disseminate opinions and it becomes an arm of the political campaign machine of Barack Obama. That's not necessarily where this site wants to go, trust me.

      •  I think I agree with you, but I'm not sure. (0+ / 0-)

        I can't support or oppose his re-election?

I think you also have to note that the mission statement is slightly confusing in and of itself, in its efforts to be 'all things to all people'.

I've suggested before, I think the bulk of the pie fights on site come down to 'those who believe better democrats will lead to more democrats' vs. 'those who believe more democrats will lead to better democrats'.

non-support of his re-election ("I'm sitting that race out, and believe others should as well because it isn't good for the Party") or oppose it ("His re-election is detrimental to the Party, I oppose it, and you should too.") and still adhere to the mission statement in the FAQ literally and in spirit. As you note, the statement in the FAQ is vague (probably intentionally so) and, as far as I can tell, interpreted and applied inconsistently at best.

I agree with your other sentiment as well, but  I'd phrase it differently. I'd say the pie fights come down to hard-core, DNC/DEC style partisans who believe in Party before Policy (or regardless of Policy, etc.) and democrats who are democrats because they think (thought) that the Democratic Party ought to represent something more than a label on a team in a horse race.

in re the pie wars.  I'm certainly a known partisan, and believe one side is far more electorally sound, but I also believe most of the folks on the other side also believe their path is more electorally sound.

The only ones I hold in deep disdain are the ones for whom the whole thing is about badmouthing other Kossacks and the site continuously.  I don't believe they actually care about 'more' or 'better' democrats.  They're just here to talk trash no matter what.
