    I think there are two reasons for having invitations right now. One is just a capacity issue. They're gearing up for a bigger volume but they can't handle it all at once. Invitations now seem to be pretty much unlimited, but they do put a filter on the flow of people in. Even with this, there was a glitch the other day where they ran out of space in part of the system and started sending out repetitive messages to a number of people.

    The second reason to limit growth right now is that they are still running what they call a field trial, and are actively fixing bugs and tweaking the system. Which is easier to do if you haven't invited the whole world on.

    I actually have seen quite a few of my friends shift over, plus a few good friends who absolutely refused to get a FB account and on G+. So I'm enjoying it a lot.

    I love the lack of a character limit on posts. The conversations are much more in-depth and interesting.
