No corporation will allow it to be ratified.

    •  Oh, Khereva, ever the pessimist (10+ / 0-)

For every optimistic comment I can make, you can always point out the reasons that it is impossible.

One thing is for damn sure - it will never happen unless we try.

I'm a lunatic who still believes that if we - as in we here at dKos and in other Progressive groups - all actually worked together, we could run Progressive candidates in almost every district in 2012. We'd have to start working on it this fall, or course, because the Democratic primaries begin at the end of January. Some of them would surely be sacrificial lambs, but some would win.

By winning the Congress in 2012, and making the Progressive Caucus in the Congress even larger and more powerful, we could dominate the Republicans. We could actually pass Progressive legislation to kick up to Obama.

We could even pass a Constitutional amendment. It might take ten years before it gets through all the states for ratification - but it would be out there. It will never even be out there if we give up before we even try.

      •  Not so much a pessimist as a cynical realist. (2+ / 0-)

The hopeful statements on DK remind me of something a friend once said.

He wanted to put a bowling ball into a locked room and pointed out that there were little louvered slits at the bottom quarter of the door.

I said, "You can't put that bowling ball through a 3mm slit. The ball's too big."

"Yes, that's true," my friend admitted, "but if you turn the bowling ball sideways... "

For your quote, yes, I tell you why not.

"cynical realists" on the Republican side. Imagine them back in 70's telling Reagan, "You'll never be able to lower taxes on the rich--the Democrats control Congress. Don't even bother trying."

If you can't change your attitude, please try changing your party affiliation, and take some of that "realistic" pessimism over to where it is so very sorely needed.

        •  What is your solution, then? (2+ / 0-)

That we all sit on dKos, scoffing at the people who hope to improve things, and tell them, "You fool, that will never work"?

What is your solution? To move somewhere else? Go, then. You've obviously given up. You've quit. You just don't want to call yourself a quitter. "Cynical realist" sounds so much smarter.

It doesn't matter what you call yourself. How do you see this attitude of yours helping?

          •  I've already said several times that as soon as (0+ / 0-)

we can afford to leave, we're off like a shot.

The American Republic died ten years ago. The Republicans are abusing its corpse. And fluffy minded Democrats are helping it. There is no situation to help.

You can call rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic while singing kumbayah "helping" or "improving things."

You can call it that, but it doesn't make it so.

            •  Why do you post here, then? (0+ / 0-)

You want more company on the flight out? You want to shoow everyone here how smart you are?

Or you want us to all give up, and quit, like you have - perhaps go to other sites and meetings and tell the participants how hopeless it is, and how they shouldn't even bother.

You might as well be paid by the GOP.

You just have to throw the bowling bowl at the door vent, really, really hard.
