    But I'd call it not so much a lack of common sense (although it's effectively that too) than a lack of respect for the truth and reality. Such people are definitely intelligent and knowledgeable, but they seem to believe that reality is, or can be, what you make of it (a la that famous Ron Suskind quote from the Bush white house circa 2003), and that actual truth and reality are for suckers, fools and the little people who aren't as blessed as they are. There's definitely a lot of hubris and arrogance going on with such people, that I think stems from an underlying fear that they don't really have what it takes to succeed at that level honestly, and so they have to make up for it with such bullshitting, but which they mask with a thick veneer of uber-confidence (that some people can see through, but they don't care about such people, because they usually don't matter--at first).
