    He controls the presidency and the majority, but not a controlling majority, of the senate. The opposition controls the House and enough to block votes in the Senate. So, we have stalemate. And, the president wants to be focused on jobs, as well as not let the country spiral into bankruptcy.

    The definition of compromise is that neither side is happy with the outcome. But so far, one side has been unwilling to go there, which is why we still have stalemate.

      We had both houses plus the White House and with that we had the opportunity to a lot of progressive things.

      The Senate however decided to play nice and not use the same rules that the Republicans had used. We could have chosen to not require the 60 votes that is now needed, which would have allowed us to gets things done. That was a choice our Democrats in the Senate could have made at the start of the Session if I am not mistaken.

      The way I see it is that the situation we are in now is very much one of our own creation.
