Hoekstra is a crappy fundraiser, I can't imagine why he thinks he could run a strong campaign against her.

But I despise Hoekstra so much that I can't pretend to have any objective view about his viability as a candidate.

Once social change begins,it cannot be reversed. You cannot uneducate the person who has learned to read...You cannot oppress people who are not afraid anymore.

The Republicans trying to find someone serious to run against Stabenow.  From what I can tell, Hoekstra doesn't do particularly well outside of the district he used to represent.  He came in second in the GOP gubernatorial primary, but he still lost by about ten points.  As far as I'm concerned, he's a joke.

And as far as I know, Stabenow is still reasonably well liked here.  There's a reason none of the current GOP reps from MI want to run against her, and why no other big names have thrown their hats into the ring.  She smacked down Bouchard pretty badly in 06, and there's no reason to think she won't do the same to whoever they pit against her next year.

Social conservatives from west Michigan almost always get wrecked when they try to run statewide. I don't think Hoekstra would have much of a chance unless 2012 turns out to be another red wave year.
