...and free clinics that are busy being defunded?  Between that and all the wavers being granted, many of the good parts of the Health Insurance Profit Protection Act are being taken away.....

    •  What of them? If they reduce health care costs... (7+ / 0-)

...that's a savings to Medicare and Medicaid and that's fine. It's still unacceptable to cut Medicare benefits so that seniors have to pay more out of pocket to fund tax cuts for the rich. What's more, people over 65 are uninsurable at anything resembling a reasonable cost, which makes the plan to raise the Medicare eligibility age even more atrocious.

It's immoral and it's Republican. But I repeat myself.

There are plenty of other ways to cut Medicare costs. Allowing drug reimportation from Canada and allowing Medicare to bargain on drug prices are two very significant ways. Only a Republican would try to justify Americans' spending much more than Canadians and Europeans for the same drugs.

Slashing Social Security is also immoral. Social Security plays no role in the deficit and should play no role in deficit reduction talks.

And, on top of this, Obama's scheme to enrich his cronies by looting social programs leaves Democrats holding the bag for implementing Republican policies that people hate. Let a Republican president implement Republican policies if the are so principled. Let THEM brave the wrath of the voters.
