  •  He hasn't switched parties (7+ / 0-)

Cherry is a life-long Democrat, a long time union (AFSCME) activist, and left office in high regard.

In addition to John, his sister Deborah Cherry, been mentioned as a possible candidate - she's a former state Senator (she took his seat when he became Lt Gov), and is now the Genessee County Treasurer.

Granholm left office not very popular, it was pretty clear it was going to be a strong Republican year, and his chances of getting elected were pretty slim. He probably looked at what it would take to raise funds, run a statewide campaign and decided that it simply wasn't the right year for that.
