would lead me to believe much of this is true.

Feds override means-testing Illinois Medicaid recipients

The state of Illinois' bipartisan legislation to means test Medicaid recipients has been overriden by the federal government.

U.S. Senator Mark Kirk spoke with WLS Radio's Don Wade and Roma Monday where he says the legislation signed by Gov. Pat Quinn would have made it possible to ensure Medicaid recipients live in Illinois and are indeed low income.

"This provision has now been struck down by the administration. They are not allowing us to check to make sure that we are checking the income and residency for people qualified for the taxpayer funded healthcare paid for by the taxpayers of Illinois," Kirk said.

The Obama administration is now preventing Illinois from checking income for means testing and checking residency.  Not an Illinois resident? No problem!  Make $50k per year.. or even more? Come on in!

Entitlements, and the political power that goes with them, has now officially gone out of control and way beyond the pale.

More and more, I think we need to crash the system and start all over.

    •  Seems the only part that the Feds had a say in (7+ / 0-)

      was the eligibility updates:

It also authorizes the department to enhance the integrity of the eligibility process, subject to federal approval, by requiring proof of Illinois residency; tightening income verification by requiring a month’s worth of income information, instead of a single paystub; and requiring annual redetermination of eligibility.

Everything else - which seemed to be what constituted the biggest opportunity for cost savings - remained intact as far as I can tell.

And do you really mean to tell me that Illinois has just been enrolling folks and handing out money without any proof of residency?

This was one of the major cost control reforms..  the rest were mostly enhancement that likely will add to the costs.

But so what?  The Obama admin says Illinois cannot ask for one month's pay stubs.. nor can it ask a recipient to prove they are an Illinois resident.

You seem somehow ok with that??

In this time of budget crunches.. and budget battles.. publicizing this nationwide would not help the Obama admin one bit.  The most lurid implication that will be exploited by the right is that undocumented immigrants need only ask for Medicaid and it is granted without any checking.. and Illinois is stuck with the bill.

        •  I'm trying to figure out how this system works (3+ / 0-)

right now -- apparently without requiring proof of Illinois residency.

Plus, I don't yet know the reasoning behind the Fed's disapproval of the upgrades Illinois wanted to implement.  There must have been a reason, and if it turns out to be stupid I certainly have no problem calling it that.

But there seems to be something missing here - so I'll wait until I see what the Feds have to say (or if they have already issued a statement please post a link 'cause I can't find anything).

        •  So the feds say this (0+ / 0-)

then shouldn't all states then not require proof. I mean here it is 3 months of pay stubs, bank account print outs, proof of res. I mean boy we are getting jiped here.

    •  Well, the Republicans got you on their side (6+ / 0-)

You help them crash the system because they've infected suspicion in you - but nothing will ever take its place. Remember "repeal and replace" the health care bill? What have they suggested to take its place while they're running around the country trying to push repeal ballot issues?

then I would like to politely submit that you are nuts... or very naive.

If you think a large number of people are not gaming the system, then there's no point in even discussing it.

And.. I take offense that you equate suspicion of how the system works, to agreeing with every cockamamie policy that comes out of the GOP.
