it was already bad enough that portland's summer never really got started before july.  now, july's half gone and we're still not there.  we've had, like, 5 days of hot and other than them, it still feels like spring.  i just had to shut my door because i was too chilly.  wackiness.

    •  In today's paper someone in Seattle calculated (18+ / 0-)

the time above 80 degrees so far this year here: 78 minutes.

The amount of time above 75?
      18 hrs 46 minutes or 2/3 of a day

This year has been bizarre for us up here in the Northwest. We broke all sorts of records in April (coldest, wettest). Then there was the 302 days below 80 degrees, the so far cold "summer" we're having, and the fact that they're saying this pattern is here for at least another week. The past three days felt like late winter or early spring.

People are starting to get wide-eyed up here.

I'd like to complain but I'd take this over a heat wave like the one in the Midwest any day (though when I think of our 10 months of cold, dark, rain I start thinking otherwise).

      •  I'm moving to Seattle (3+ / 0-)

Fuck this heat. The heat index has consistently been over 100 in St. Louis the past few days. That Seattle weather sounds perfect.

I always prefer cold over hot. You can always put on more layers of clothes, but there's only so much you can take off.

          :)

And for the first few years I was happy as hell to be rid of those gawd awful summers (and still am).

But don't kid yourself, the winters here are BRUTAL. And it's not the rain the media likes to harp on. In fact, we get less annual rainfall than Baltimore. Or Pittsburgh.

It's the length of the gray and dark. Seriously. For 10 months be prepared for lack of sun. And this year? Heck. We'll be lucky if August gives us an actual summer. Don't count on September being great either. It's always a question mark. Our winters start by October 1.

They stop in....I'll get back to you.

          :)

(don't let this dissuade you though, come on up, we always welcome transplants because most of us are!)
