    good comment.

It is a shame it is so far down the diary because so many felt the urge to hop the TJ.

We all know why people hop the tj:

    1. For shameless mojo whoring
    2. To argue more loudly

My method of dealing with the problem is to ignore 99% of comments in reply to the tip jar. It is easy. After tipping, CTRL click the tip jar comment and all the ugly morass below shrinks away POOF!

Try it sometime; it is awesome.

I personally wish Kos had followed thru on his plan to disable replying to the tip jar as he had suggested he might.

You know what else works to "reply to the diarist"?
Post a comment in their diary. Yeah, shockingly simple stuff that.

unopened comments, which is what I've done for years now. I didn't initially do it for the jump the tip jar problem, but just because I don't like to see all the comments open - it's too unrly. And on a slow system, it's cumbersome.

You're projecting your own motivations onto others.

Sometimes I reply to the tip jar.  Sometimes I don't.

      1. For shameless mojo whoring
      2. To argue more loudly

Has nothing to do with it.

It mainly depends on whether I'm addressing the diarist specifically or the audience generally.

Most diarists don't post comments in their own diaries, in my experience.  What they do post are replies to others' comments.

For me to reply to one of those is effectively barging into a conversation and trying to change the subject.

Replying to the tip jar lacks that baggage.

It's amazing how people create motivations for actions in their minds and assume that's why others do things.  I've worked with people like that.  It's irritating.  No matter how smart a person thinks he or she is, chances are their assumptions about why another person does something are flat wrong.

        Yup; you are exactly that.

The 3rd most common reason for tip jar reply is "OOPS!" (the kind mentioned in the diary body.)

Your imagined reasons are 4th or 5th, at best.

        •  Wow. (0+ / 0-)

You have described my own reason for why I reply to tip jars as "imagined."

          Curious.

How is it you know why I do something -- better than I do myself -- when:

          1.  You don't know who I am?

          2.  You don't know my personality?

          3.  You don't know my motivations or intent?

          4.  You don't have a damn clue what you're talking about?

Are you that stupid?  Arrogant?  Some magical mix of the two?

          •  oh, I know who you are. (0+ / 0-)

And this obnoxious comment fits your style to a tee.

The fact that you have nearly as many replies to your comments as uprates shows that most people here do not agree with your antics either.

Leveling ad hominem "stupid / Arrogant" attacks here should result in HRs & eventual banning.

            Good luck with that.

Perhaps learning how to control yourself would be a better option.
