IMHO, one of the reasons that unions have failed to attract the loyalty of people like eastern619 is their failure to confront the issue of corruption.

It is intentional blindness to claim there is no organized crime influence in organized. It has existed from the very early days of the labor movement right up to the present day.

Even worse, patterns of petty corruption are everywhere in the labor movement and act as a strong deterrent to union democracy and the alliance of unions with progressive elements.

I'm hesitant to put my full support behind something that I am  not sure is independent of organized crime. I can't be the only one. (Although, I am not young. I'm in my 40's.)

The Mafia does not run organized labor, despite what you may have seen on "The Sopranos," but there are pockets of organized crime influence.

Individual labor organizations have to be assessed on their own individual merits, not by any blanket assumptions one way or another.
