have outflanked the Dems completely then:

Almost all GOP congresscritters vote in support of Ryan plan

Someone in GOP is intelligent enough to realize what a potential electoral gift to the Dems this is

GOP see that if they raise false crisis re normally routine debt ceiling Dems will cave, agree to some cuts

Dems  huge 2012 electoral advantage neutralized.

The Gallup survey doesn't actually tell us that much. At this current point in the process it is perfectly feasible that a respondent will say yes to compromise yet still hold the view that either or both parties were badly at fault in letting things get to this point. In other words, I suspect that Gallup got exactly the answer they set out ot get.

Pew, Gallup and CBS say something falrly clear about the sustainability of 'no tax increases ever'. Gallup had the least info, but confirm what the others say.

And one area where i disagree is the "Dems  huge 2012 electoral advantage neutralized." I assume you are talking about Ryan and medicare. But the reality is there was no overwhelming Dem electoral advantage, there was an advantage on that one issue which may or may not translate into a win in an given congressional district. Since the GOP still has the Ryan plan, unclear how that will play out. Very unclear.

This reminds me of the health plan debate. Those who see single payer as the only acceptable alternative refuse to accept anything else and see only utter defeat. I don't see the world that way. I'm for single payer, and didn't think it could pass.
