    exciting news! could you connect this to the DOJ briefing from a couple weeks ago in a way that would make sense to me. that briefing seemed like a big deal. and seems like this has been in the planning for awhile. i liked your diary on that. :-)

      they're politically amping up the fierce advocacy.

      I mean, minds at the admin may have become better educated on LGBT discrimination in the course of rethinking their legal strategy toward addressing DOMA.

      But there's no real change in position that is attributable to the Golanski brief. He called DOMA discriminatory as far back as 2007 and endorsed the idea of repeal.

      The language has sharpened from "discriminatory" (which is legally tenable) to "unconstitutional" (which is not). And from endorsing an idea to endorsing an actual real life solution that Congress will eventually be called upon to vote for. And we can now say to our Dem reps, "Don't you support your party leader's goals?" (Heh!)

      So, excellent evidence of evolution.  Carry on Administration.
