In NY, our FEDERAL reps Senators Gillibrand and Schumer played a big role in passing a STATE bill that delivered marriage equality. Obama COULD do the same and CHOOSES not to.

The LGBT community in MN could benefit greatly from Obama urging supporters to vote no on the amendment to ban gay marriage as he sweeps through the state in 2012.

Will he? We'll see. OFA let the gays twist in the wind on Question 1 in Maine in 2009. They were not engaged in NY either, from what I could tell, while Democracy For America and other groups pitched in to help.

Engaging his own followers is an area he needs encouragement to evolve on, even if he won't say the words himself.

"New York was a big win for gay-marriage advocates, no question." -- Maggie Gallagher, Wall Street Journal
