    than your headline suggests:
    Compromise is preferable to nothing
    People are against cutting benefits
People do not buy into tax increases being a bad thing

In other words decreasing spending and increasing taxes are not seen as equal - raising taxes especially at the top end is infinitely preferable.

Very few are buying the increasing taxes on high earnings will make things worse lie.

Many see cutting entitlements as a very bad thing.

    •  all true, but if you want nuance (0+ / 0-)

you have to emphasize: the majority of voters would prefer a deal they don't like to defaulting.

      And this:

How would you have written the headline? I'm curious.

      •  "americans dissatisfied with all dc proposals" (0+ / 0-)

          •  of course people want "compromise" in the abstract (0+ / 0-)

we are taught that compromise is preferred over obstinacy and, im general, it is

what matters, however, is the nature of the compromise

from what i see, the american people don't like any of the "choices" dc is offering, whether they are considered compromises or not

what the american people really want is OTHER CHOICES than what the dc overlords are considering

i think that's the meta-message from all the polling

            •  and that means what? (0+ / 0-)

they want something passed. The want to avoid a crisis by defaulting.

Going back to your previous analogy, you can wear the red shirt, or the blue shirt, but you're wearing a shirt. Don't tell me you like orange, you don't have an orange shirt. And you have to put something on.

I don't care of you don't want to.

              •  what the american people want only matters (0+ / 0-)

when it is what the dc overlords want

i believe that is what you are saying

you have once again conflated the problem with the solution
