Yesterday, Cap Cut and Balance passed the house with 5 dem votes. I'm sure it is going to be a huge shocker who cast those 5 votes, so hold on to your hats:

    Dan Boren (D-OK)
    Jim Cooper (D-TN)
    Jim Matheson (D-UT)
    Mike McIntyre (D-NC)
    Heath Shuler (D-NC)

OK, now I get that they are Blue Dogs and they are prone to vote for stupid crap, but this is just a bridge too far IMO. CC&B would cut and cap spending so deeply that it would necessitate complete privatization of Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. It is a radical piece of legislation that had no prayer of passing the senate, and one that Obama said he would veto if it ever came across his desk. It is so insane that even Michelle Bachmann couldn't bring herself to vote for it.

So basically, we have 5 democrats who took a symbolic vote for apparently no other reason than to align themselves with the Tea Party. And guess what the right wing talking point is today? That the house republicans aren't really extreme, and that CC&B was a reasonable, bipartisan peice of legislation as evidenced by the fact that 5 dems voted for it.

The working poor get to fall through the cracks
