Seems like the young and most minorities took a flyer on the 2010 election.

What's more, I don't see how we get the minorities (and many of the young) back to the polls with Repubs basically trying to ban them from voting in the battleground states.

    •  well yeah. base was probably the wrong word. (5+ / 0-)

      party loyalists wouldve been better.

As for getting them back to the polls, I share your concern. The young people have become cynical. I can't say I blame them much. AAs will show up but many of the first timers who came out for Obama in 2008 will be hard to recapture. Their lives aren't any better and Obama feels "foreign" to them despite the racist claims of the baggers that Obama is giving away everything to The Blacks.

Obama's got a tough uphill battle to climb. I'm not not sure his staff realizes how precarious his situation is. I imagine that they do. I imagine they are counting on a certain percentage of us to vote once the game "winds into full gear". I'd be very careful with that assumption, though, if I was his team. Some of us are reaching a limit.

...to stop a rebound in minority participation.

Getting people registered, I.D.'d, to the polls, and training poll watchers will never be more important, especially in the black communities.

BTW: Heard on Chris Matthews show last night that one state passed a law that will accept a Firearm ID as valid for voting but not a student ID.
