  •  Ditto (5+ / 0-)

I had just finished the LOTR and was looking for another series. A friend mentioned them. I thought it was a lame idea.
    I love being wrong.
    What a wonderful series.
I was just listening to the first one again. I can't sleep well anymore because of my back and when I wake up, I go over and over and over the reasons I was fired for no reason, the friends who have walked out, the family that isn't there, the reasons why I should continue to live this shitty life, so instead, I turn on a book and go back to sleep.

Why are we still paying for Congress's health insurance, their meals and all the other perks they get while they are gutting ours? They get all the perks while we get a pile of shit.

    •  Another series. (3+ / 0-)

I have also devoured the late, great Marian Zimmer Bradley who had at least three good series, the most developed being the Darkover books.

      •  those are on my 'to read' list and I've gotten (1+ / 0-)

all of them now, in electronic format, so hopefully I'll be able to get to them by the end of this year.

for those kinds of nights try Mercedes Lackey - she has several in fact.  My favorites are the Valdemar series, the Dragon Jousters, and the Free Bards series (OK, OK, and the Tales of the 500 Kingdoms romantic fantasy series).  I am thankfully no longer there but there have been times in my life when those kinds of nights were just about normal and as far as I'm concerned that's what books are for.

Jordan "Wheel of Time" books. Engagingly written; each one bigger than a doorstop; series never ends. In short, perfect material for escaping to another place altogether. I finally read the prequel "New Spring" and now must reread the whole damn thing!

To my spouse's dismay, I sometimes listen to Harry Potter books to fall, or get back, to sleep. LOTR was alittle too involving for me, for soporific purposes. Somehow Jim Dale's reading diverts my mind away from the rumination, but lets me go to sleep.

Okay, the Government says you MUST abort your child. NOW do you get it?
