"e-books" with "Kindle" [insert little TM thang]?

At the Orange Press we'll gladly sell you a .pdf and send it to you by e-mail. Or we'll sell you the hard copy. Problem is, our books are hand-bound, and some are multi-color, and we really think it's important to that our books feel right - you know, something you can put in your pocket or leave on a bench, or, in the case of the Giddiyap Society, leave in the motel's bedside table, on top of the competition.

Here's what we do: along with the .pdf we'll send you basic instructions for binding the book by hand - it's a single-quire binding, pretty easy to learn, and once you know how you can bind your own books or pass them on to others, or teach others how to turn .pdfs into "real" books. Then they can teach others, or start their own publishing company.

As to the proprietary stuff: we just charge whatever we think is reasonable, depending on who you are. If you're in jail, or a library in the Third World or the Rez, we'll send it to you for free. If you're rich, it's $40.00; assholes pay $100.00 and rich assholes pay $200.00. Works pretty well so far; and it's nice to know there are so many potential customers out there...

    for the WOID Gang:

    Frederick Devious, Music Editor,
Hoipolloi Cassidy and Trotsky the Horse, co-chairs, The Giddiyap Society,
    Hysterix le Gaulois, Paris Bureau,
    Quill Mike, Labor Desk,
    Screamin' Jew Hawkins, Human Rights,
    Wölfflin Jack, Culture.

    •  You're right, distinctions must be made, for (0+ / 0-)

the phrase "e-book" cannot encapsulate all that could be, or is, available digitally. And that's, perhaps, actually one of the points: we need for there to be freer, more private digital e-book options.

As for your outfit, looks very interesting. I'm going to head to the website.

I'm "THE" Troubadour," and not "Troubadour" without the article. We're different people here at DK :)
