  •  North Carolina is one of those states (9+ / 0-)

    that is 2/3 ALEC-controlled.

The Teabaggers took over both chambers of our legislature, and immediately the ALEC-written "Model Legislation" began springing up in Raleigh like an infestation of slime mold. Much of it has already been passed.

Our Democratic governor vetoed quite a bit of this garbage, but she has been overriden on at least the budget (which actually contained ALEC language sprinkled througout it, like rat turds in a bag of flour) and may well be overridden on some of the even worse bills.

Worse, she is under constant attack by ALEC- and Koch-funded bullshit, and is unlikely to be reelected, even though our state is 45% Democratic by voter registration and only 31% Republican. Her likely opponent, former Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory, is a 100% Americans For Prosperity puppet, and will have access to millions in Koch Cash™.

We will actually have an easier time keeping the governorship - which won't be easy at all - because the diabolical and fraudulent redrawing of not only our congressional districts, but also our state legislative districts, has managed to create a supermajority of safe Republican districts.

using prison inmates in sparse rural areas to allow fed subsidies to the rural area from the urban areas.  Insidious and allows for undue influence through these tactics, and reduces subsidies to the larger urban populations which contributes to their economic slide.
