      after I got my physics undergrad degree, so I was taught particle physics as a puzzling menagerie. That unsatisfying state of affairs partly explains my detour into computer programming...

          You are a wonderful example of an engaged diarist. Thanks so much for your time doing this.

          As for me and particle physics, I read all the popular expository stuff and devour everything I can find by or about Richard Feynman, but without an actual intense academic setting to reinforce it it simply does not adhere in my aging brain. Anything beyond Schroedinger's Equation fades within 24 hours of reading it.
