than seeing a clean-cut older gentleman my dad's age (mid-60s) working at a fast-food place or worse, at a China-mart.  Destructiveanachronism, my heart goes out to your dad.

While I'm glad they are working, it hurts to see that they aren't using their REAL skills and experience (which I'm sure they have--in some field OTHER than fast-food!)

I am thankful that my dad retired at a good time, with a decent pension, and that my folks' house is paid for.  To 'keep busy' (he says) he works a local part-time job where his skills and experience are respected and valued.

I am ashamed that we have become the kind of country where older Americans, with valuable skills and experience, are being pushed out of the workforce in favor of jobs outsourced to other countries for bare-subsistence wages.
