    I've seen similar things happen at Piper Aircraft in the '70s, Beech in the '80s and Bell in the 2000s. Only a few people in an advanced age bracket are kept on, probably as Judas goats to those ten years younger so they'll stay with the company through their peak productive years. It isn't called "recession", it's called "capitalism". The difference between 62 and 65 is huge in pension terms. I have heard of several people laid off a week before their 65th birthday. They were valuable enough to the company, but not valuable enough to pay them an honest pension.
    Like I say, this has been common practice for a while. It isn't your dad's fault.
