  •  We need to pull out the 'N' word again, (14+ / 0-)

because apparently we're spending a lot of time (word) space avoiding a simple word.

This is more than racism. It is more than conservatism.  There are many in the Tea Party who had no problem with Bush's wars, either with the concept of dominating resources or the equally-attractive idea of humiliating the Middle East. Note they called for nuking Iran, and almost got it with John McCain and John Bolton.

Nationalism is not simply opposed to people of Asian descent (in this case, Muslims from West Asia) it is also opposed to the existence of liberalism and especially socialism.  This was a political attack on the Labour Party, through a wildly successful extermination of Youth Worker's Party members, and an attempted assassination of Prime Minister Stoltenberg.  Nationalism is opposed to not only people of different ethnicities, but also people of different religions. It is to that extent that Christianity concerns nationalists in European populations.  It's a claim to heritage (under attack).

There are nationalists in the US, and long have been. And there are nationalist strains in Germany, in Russia, and in Norway. All are violently dangerous.  Even in France, nationalist attitudes are responsible for systematic oppression of Algerian and other Muslim-French immigrants and first generation French, and the expulsion of Roma. The Le Pen family has been very successful in amplifying nationalist concerns, and Sarkozy, a plutocrat, is now clearly tapping at least some of that base.

In the US, what was destroyed through the unexpected chain of events in WWII has resurfaced. We were never destined to not become fascist: it happened because we turned against Hitler when the American right didn't want to, and the bi-partisan isolationists, including socialists, were outsmarted by Roosevelt.

I have diaried European nationalism before. I have warned about American nationalism in diaries past. Read Cormac McCarthy if you want to know what is carried in the blood of Yankees.

A reminder on grammar: even Shakespeare used "more better."

    •  Nazism is "national" (i. e. in the (0+ / 0-)

European or 'western' context of the word, race-based) socialism (albeit with mostly the wealthy and the militarists benefiting from any re-distribution of power in, and influence over the government).

      Not sure about this:

In the US, what was destroyed through the unexpected chain of events in WWII has resurfaced. We were never destined to not become fascist: it happened because we turned against Hitler when the American right didn't want to, and the bi-partisan isolationists, including socialists, were outsmarted by Roosevelt.

But I think it should be noted that a great number of Americans wanted a kind of Mussolini to take over the US, at least temporarily (no one likes to chance a permanent dictator) during the crisis times of the early 1930s (this is before Hitler showed how much a better icon there could be). Once Roosevelt, after he was elected, all but met this desire, and no sooner than the country was saved from the seemingly real danger of a revolution, did the US plutocracy start to attack him as a dictator.

H'mm. I'm not terribly into this, anymore.
