. . . so far as using Communism as a comparative.  Just compare Fascism to general Left-leaning values.

Still, your comparison is stark, ain't it?

Yet the right continues to try to hang Fascism on us.

    •  You falsely attribute soviet stuff to communism (3+ / 0-)

in general.  There are different flavors of communism.  The attributes you used were narrowly only associated with the Soviet Union's variant.  (For example, Soviet communism was explicitly atheist.  But there have existed religious communes.  It's not necessary for it to be atheistic.  Similarly Soviet Communism used Lamark's weird incorrect version of evolution, but that's not a necessary aspect of communism in general either.

To make an analogy, it's as if you did a study of Benito Mussolini and concluded from that study that speaking Italian is a feature of fascism.

The Soviet system seems to have been fairly standard, if only because they exported it so aggressively.

Here's a bit from Karl Popper

Marx, in opposition to Hegel, contended that the clue thwart history, even to the history of ideas, is to be found in the developmentof the relations between man and his natural environment, material world; that is say, in his economic life, and not in his spiritual life.

He describes Hegel as a Platonist who emphasized national "spirit" and the supremacy of the state. In Popper's opinion, Hegel was basically a hired gun, used to counteract the revolutionary fever that spread across Europe after the French Revolution. Germans wanted a constitution, and Hegel "proved" that a nationalistic monarchy was far better. He was essentially a neocon. This required dialectics of the sort that is most actively seen in the right wing today. Anders constant Orwellian language and projection is dialectic.

Someone will no doubt say I'm wrong, but that's what i've got off the top of my head.

It's a leap from Hegel as a conservative and monarchist to fascism, is all...

          •  Then Marx Rebelled Against It Hegelianism (0+ / 0-)

I mean being a Hegelian would have been more or less compulsory for a young Marx.  But being a Continental philosopher meant coming up with your own version of Dialectics.   (God, give some corny American Logical Positivism!)

It's a leap from Hegel as a conservative and monarchist to fascism, is all...

Not really, remember young Hitler was absolutely a monarchist, who would eventually be at war with the parliamentary ideals of the Social Democrats.

It's said Hitler's most sacred possession was an oil painting of Frederick the Great, which accompanied him for years.
