so I thought I would be immune to Oregon rain too.

This rain is different.  It is all day, every day.  For months and months.  Luckily the summers are warm and completely dry in my part of the state (well, except for this year), and that more than makes up for it.

Most of Oregon has little rain at all, 2/3rds of the state are desert or semi-arid.  Even Portland rain is often very moderate, gentle, and fleeting, as with most of the valley. Psychologically, it may feel like a lot, but it's about the same amount of rain as St. Louis, averaging out the same but over more time.

On the coast, however, the rain really does go on, and on. Like Hilo, HI.

A reminder on grammar: even Shakespeare used "more better."

    •  I agree. I lived in a NCal County that actually (0+ / 0-)

receives more rain and lots of fog. I figured adjusting to Western WA would be a piece of cake. Nope. There, it rains a lot; then you see some sun.

Here, it just rains and rains. And it used to be drizzly rain, but it seems like in the last few years, we're dealing with more significant flooding across the state; that is, major rain storms for days.

I love it here. And when I moved here, i swore I would never once complain about the rain. But when we're breaking records for things like the most consecutive days of rain (around 30 -- that year, EVERYONE was complaining), the wettest June ever, and other records we've broken in the last several years, well, I just recommend that a potential newcomer be sure they know what they're getting themselves into. Many who move here end up moving away after a couple winters. They just can't do it.

This is a spectacularly beautiful state. But there's a reason for all that green scenery.

Gore-Tex should be our official state textile.
