a ticket out of the WH. If you don't wise up and tell him that then you are complicit in getting him that ticket.

I was certain President Obama's chances of winning reelection were still quite good.

They still ARE quite good, if the Thugs are idiotic enough to nominate Michelle Bachman. If though the teabaggers have sufficient animal cunning to swallow their pride and acquiesce in the selection of Romney, I fear that Mr. Obama faces a real challenge in 2012.

we will lose all 3 houses and the party known as Democratic. I don't see how we survive when we undercut those Democratic principles.

Democrats may reluctantly accept a last-minute compromise to avoid a default that involves up to $2.5 trillion in spending cuts -- without agreed-upon new tax revenues -- if Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security are protected from the debt limit brinksmanship.

The plan would place a firewall between entitlement spending and the threat of default, upsetting GOP plans to force deep, immediate cuts to those programs.

Just curious. Because it is obvious the GOP will be coming back after it all. And the Dems will clearly help them with their awesome political skills.

We have never seen more proof that we need a lockbox for these programs than this made up deficit issue dog and pony show.

It is too late to demand that in this battle because the game is lost no matter what happens when they are all standing up there pretending the programs are connected to deficits and that defaulting on deficit is a real issue.

But we need to think long term, if they don't shred the programs before the end of this?

            •  what is needed (0+ / 0-)

more than lockboxes is to stop fostering the "there's no difference" meme so that GOTV is off the hook for 2012.  because we, and obama, need a dem congress, the more liberal the better.

because, as has been said over and over, this is really not about obama at all. do you think we'd be having this ridiculous debate if pelosi were still speaker? it is absolutely imperative that we stop poisoning the well with defeatist memes just because obama has disappointed.

because you can bet your bippies the GOP will keep trying the ryan plan over and over and over.  speaking of the ryan plan, it is exhibit a for establishing that there really is a difference between the parties and why the standard line here is a gross overreaction to the vaguely proposed cuts coming from obama. the ryan plan is "gutting" and "destroying."  by the way, even dean says the programs need streamlining.

oh, and it'd be grand if people quit presenting speculation and opinion as fact.

              that's what's needed, imHo.

Repeating it over and over will not make it true.

This is about Obama and his making this long term battle worse (as are many Dems) when they keep talking about things that are complete lies just to make up an argument they hope to win.
