    is involved in our education system, particularly when it becomes a highly standardized exercise controlled from the top.

    Actually I would think you would find the founding philosophies of both Edelman & Barr's groups to be good!  And any non-profit to have any kind of real clout to get things accomplished needs its funding sources.  Both Edelman and Barr take foundation money, but Barr seems more able to stay more focused on his grassroots goals, despite that funding.

    As to applying private sector principles to education, I think the U.S. school system has been doing that since the early 20th Century, with the influence of Frederick Taylor.  That hopefully is my next diary.
