    foreign governments keep imposing neo-liberal economic policies on Haiti for the benefit of Haitian elites and foriegn corporations, the NGOs are doing no more than putting band-aids on gaping wounds.

    •  And most of the NGOs (5+ / 0-)

      do more harm than good, since they get most of funding from USAID or other countries sister agency. They are accountable to donor country; aid is given with instructions to enact programs in the interest of US not Haiti. As you know many of the Intl NGOs played significant role in 2004 coup.

      It is frustrating because US plays such huge role in Haiti's poverty and so many US citizens believe Clinton is Haiti's savior. Haiti has done the impossible more than once so it isn't hopeless but until US policy changes chances of positive change are slim.
