      when we all had to sign for the first time and were asked for our IDs for the first time.  As expected, that did cause some confusion.

      Even worse was the voter suppression in Glendale, a middle-class blueish burb that usually has more than a dozen polling places but opened only one for the primary.  Even the conservative media here had to report how many voters had to wait hours, how many showed up at the wrong polling place and never found the correct one, etc.

      The good citizens of Glendale have demanded that all polling places be open on August 9 -- but the lines still will be long everywhere because of the new requirements to sign the poll register and be asked for IDs and, if we refuse (as I did, while I still could), to be instructed in the new requirement for voter ID as of February 2012, the new requirements re registration soon, etc., etc.
