And through discussion, we arrive at complete agreement.

The only thing I have to add is that rationality is not as rational as it looks, either. In investigating the way my own mind works, I have seen this. When I look at it honestly, I have to admit that my "gut reaction" always comes first, and that my logical mind is then pressed into service turning my gut reaction into a story where I get to be the hero, by way of my wonderful and powerful logical mind which has arrived at this conclusion that just coincidentally exactly matches my gut feeling. I have been observing this tendency and working on mitigating it for decades but I still do it. So I would not be surprised at all to learn that, indeed, that is the way all humans actually think, whether they admit it to themselves or not.

So, do not take it as a given that people who appear to be rational really are. All it means is that their emotional biases roughly match your own.

I am a firm believer that this is indeed how all humans think. We are a product of both our logical mind and our 'gut reaction'. Each individual has a different balance between the two. Some are mostly gut, and some are mostly logical.
Any message that we want to be understood has to appeal to both. It has to have solid logical content, AND solid emotional/nonrational content. I know enough to see this, but not enough to craft the message.

Getting this point across is becoming one of my missions on Daily Kos....:)

I'm getting to the point now that when someone unloads an emotionally-driven "screw you" at me, my first response is "Good emotion! Now let's tie some logic to it, and point it at the problem!" I wish I knew more about this kind of interaction on a technical or professional level.

      Less "WAAAAH!", more progress.
