  •  Holy galloping vampire bats - Batman! (4+ / 0-)

I believe vampire bats like to drink blood from just above the hoof line of many ungulates - so being "grounded" is maybe an evolutionary advantage at times.  I learned some good news about sea lampreys too - hormonal controls may work to curtail their numbers. This is a promising bit of research at MSU because they are building up a resistance to the chemicals we've been using over the last 3-4 decades and are becoming a major concern again.  Thanks for these updates on cool science stuff Possum!

      sharing is a joy.

Bats seek places on animals where the skin is thin and blood vessels close to the surface.  Amazing the evolution of that process.  And what a wonderful source of literature!

Lots going in Michigan with the sea lamprey.  Invading the Great Lakes is a danger to fishing and recreation.  Best of luck finding ways to corral those creatures.
