done so without resorting to sexist stereotypes, in this case, a joke about raping an older woman intended to show that this man was a loser for picking the older woman.

i love carlin, and understand his MO, but this was not a funny joke.

    •  I agree, generally (0+ / 0-)

It seemed apparent he wanted to use the sexist stereotypes and throw it in our faces.

I respect your feelings, just have slightly different ones on this particular point.  That is, I didn't find it funny, either - that's the reaction he got out of me.  But, he really made me think why he told it in the first place.

    •  There is NO SUCH THING as a funny joke. (0+ / 0-)

Whether they are funny or not is a matter of opinion, not fact. So a comment like "this is not a funny joke" has no meaning.

that is the point of the joke as i see it. I wrote upthread how I understand the joke:
I think the joke plays with the assumption many people still have, that rape is of a sexual nature. Few people in the world would find an 81-year old sexually attractive, but if rape is sexual, then who would rape a 81 year old? It must be some extreme loser unlike those upstanding men who would rape a hot 20 something?

It makes one sit back and question why else if not for sex this guy might have raped a 81 year old.  Once you do that, it doesn't take a huge jump to question if the rape of more attractive women might also be done for reasons other than sexual attraction.

      •  That depends on the woman or a man's taste. (0+ / 0-)

"Few people in the world would find an 81-year old sexually attractive"

        •  I did write few (0+ / 0-)

and not noone, i actually deliberately wrote few.
Are you willing to argue that many people ie a somewhat high percentage of people find a 81 year old woman, or an 81 year old man for that matter sexually attractive? Maybe some extreme rare exceptions like sean connery, but he is also only still considered somewhat attractive, because he does not look like your typical 81 year old man.
Age does not make people more sexually attractive in general and for most people, and thats ok, It doesn't have to, people of that age do not or should not be reproducing anymore anyway (which doesn't mean that i think they should not be having sex) and sexual attraction is just something nature came up with through evolution to help us reproduce better.
I'm sorry, but the general population believes that a 80 plus year old is not sexually attractive, to deny that would be wishful thinking.
