For 180 days my last son will be grilled and molded into the fine citizen he's expected to be.
I am amazed at the miracles our schools perform on our little blocks of clay we give them. Maybe I give schools too much credit.
Maybe our kids learn despite schools. Maybe my children are just geniuses waiting to digest all the information that's poured into them. Maybe I could do just as well of a job if I home schooled.
But why mess with a good thing that seems to be working?
Even I learned something in school 100 years ago! But most of us kids weren't there to learn per se. We were there to terrorize the teachers and win popularity games.
It was also a good place to find out the latest gossip and get other kids' opinions on my new over-sized mohair sweater.
Nonetheless, I guessed I learned a little. They named me valedictorian --- not bad for a backward farm girl from a family of eight.
Like I said, schools do perform miracles!
