I've been quite enthusiastic about this race and the prospect of representation by a true progressive, Dr. David Gill, after many dreary years of no representation by Republican John Shimkus. With redistricting, I am now for the first time in my ten years living in Illinois, in a district with a true chance of a Democratic win. After a few weekends of phone banking, canvassing, and putting up door-hangers, I thought I would try to find any poll that was out there on this race and compile them to get a sense of what the race looks like on election eve.
I put together the table below with all of the polls I could find on this U.S. House race in Illinois' 13th Congressional district:
I have to conclude that this is a very close race and could go either way, especially in light of the partisan bent to these polls. There are some newspapers that might call We Ask America unbiased, but with just a little research on the web, I found that this pollster is affiliated with the Illinois Manufacturers Association. They do have Enyart ahead in IL-12, so I'm not sure what to make of the disparities in the polling on the IL-13 race.
I'm certainly no expert in interpreting polls, so I welcome your comments, interpretations, encouragement, etc. I met a lot of great people helping with this campaign, and I am hoping our get out the vote efforts will overcome the 4 million dollars that have been spent (or is in line to be spent) to defeat Dr. Gill. If you live in IL-13 and can help tomorrow, let me know and I'll connect you to the people I know who are working hard on this campaign.
