Posting a Diary Entry

Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.

When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.

If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.

  1. One diary daily maximum.
  2. Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
  3. No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
  4. Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
  5. Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
  6. Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
  7. Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.

Please begin with an informative title:

Fiscal Cliff, Fiscal Cliff, Fiscal Cliff. You can almost hear the talking heads clicking their heals as they repeat this new mantra.

What is the Fiscal Cliff? The Fiscal Cliff is the Republicans new economic lie du jour. Just like the deficit, not jobs is the problem, before it " Same as it ever was, same as it ever was".

We need to help President Obama fight this meme. During the deficit talks we were lucky to have the support of Occupy Wall Street. Occupy changed the topic from the deficit lie to the 99% vs 1% truth. Unless Occupy is revitalized we can not expect to have their support in this battle. Below are some ideas I have come up with that I think can help us combat this lie.

You must enter an Intro for your Diary Entry between 300 and 1150 characters long (that's approximately 50-175 words without any html or formatting markup).

1) The most important thing we need to do is change the narrative from their urgent Fiscal Cliff to something else. The truth is that the greedy 1% do not want to pay their fair share in taxes and are lying about the state of the economy. Maybe someone can come up with a simple word, term or concept to showcase this?

2) Destroy their meme by destroying the urgency of their lie and questioning the qualifications of the person disseminating the lie. Until we have a catchy phrase we can use, it is best if we do not use the term "Fiscal Cliff" . Some examples:

"You think that this is a disaster? 9/11 was a disaster. Katrina was a disaster. Sandy was a disaster. This is just the 1% crying because they do not want to pay their fair share in taxes."

" America is strong and has survived real disasters. This is just the 1% crying because they do not want to pay their fair share in taxes."
3) Contact the President in a huge tidal wave of support. Lets start now and get fellow political nerds and non political nerds to sign, write letters, what ever we can do to make our voices heard now, before more damage is done and the GOP defines the story once again with their lie. Tell the President how you voted for him, that you supported him, and especially that you saw him try and cooperate with the Republicans countless times and that he now has your support to go forward without the cooperation of the Republicans because they obviously do not want to cooperate with him.

Please post comments on what you read and add your own ideas as well.
